Instructed by Michael Saul

Program Details

Audience: Beginner

This course taught by Michael Saul will bring family members together to experience the exciting world of clay and build basic skills and understanding of ceramics forming techniques. One child and one adult will learn handbuilding skills such as pinch-forming and coil construction as well as slab forms. The same two family members are requested to attend each class. The clay forms will range from functional to sculptural. Surface decoration and glazing skills will also be explored. Basic throwing techniques on the potter's wheel such as centering, opening and pulling up cylinders, bowls, cups and vessels will be covered. The students will work with stoneware clay and firing will be in an oxidation or wood fired kiln.

Tuition will cover glaze materials and kiln firing; however, students should anticipate additional fees for clay and some tools.

Give it a try and expect to have a great time tapping into your family's creative roots!
